Each week, we'll use YOYA's 20 Questions to unlock the vault and provide a sneak peek into the essentials of our favorite moms.

This week the spotlight's on Karla Gutierrez. Karla is the founder of Casa Violeta, a boutique hotel in Tulum, which YOYA founder Cristina Villegas calls her "second home". Karla is a dream follower, a cosmic seeker, and an in-love mother in search of inspiration. Enjoy learning more about Karla's favorites below, from the three hour yoga class you must try when in Tulum, to her easy tips to keep you grounded while traveling. 

ABOUT ME

Neighborhood: I've lived between Tulum and New York for the past 15 years. Two years ago I moved to Edgemont from Manhattan, where I continue to travel every month to Tulum to take care of my beloved Casa Violeta. I spend most fo the summer in Sag Harbor, Italy and Guadalajara, my hometown

Work Industry: Founder of Casa Violeta, a boutique hotel in Tulum which is a magnet for spiritual seekers and esthetes

My Crew (Kids/Ages): Claudio, 7 years old

Morning Routine: I usually wake up at 6:30am and drink water with some drops of lemon. I meditate a little bit and plan my day. I take some fruit with breakfast (to give a me a head start in my daily quota of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals).  I try do Yoga everyday to keep me grounded and physically strong. I go outside, breath and get sunshine, and most of all BE PRESENT

ESSENTIALS

Go-to Outfit: I love clothes that can easily transition from Jungle to City life. I get a lot of my pieces from local artisans in Mexico. My favorite brands include: Carolina K, Figue, Calo Tulum, Julia y Renata Guadalajara and Amina Rubbinacci Cashmere. My favorite jewelry is from Lorae Russo, whom I'm working on a project with!  

Best Workout:  In Tulum it's RafaelChaman8 - a 3 hour yoga class that's the best. If you come to Tulum don’t miss out! This summer I experienced The Class in Bridgehampton and fell in love with it. Such a great work out. And when I am in Edgemont I love my Hip Hop Yoga Class by Colby at Here and Now Yoga

Must Have Beauty Product:  My sister is my beauty guru and I go to her for advise @thehealthywarrior . I started using  LOLI's plum elixir, and the chia carrot brulee for my face, OLIO E OSSO lip balm from Onda Beauty, Inphenom shampoo and conditioner.

Favorite Instagram Account(s) to Follow:  I like to follow the rhythms of nature and make rituals with my son for FULL MOON to let go of what we don’t need any more in our lives and with THE NEW MOON to set our intentions. I follow my dear friend @nomadicsonglines to give me insights on how to go around  this special times and make ritual and ceremony part of our daily lives. Home Decor Style: Mid Century Modern 

Favorite Destination: Capri

Travel Essentials: Face masks on the plane and drink lots of water. When I get to my destination a healthy salad and a walk outside (possibly barefoot) to release stress from traveling and to ground. I always bring sage or palo santo to clear the space. And I never ever travel without two of my favorite bikinis from La Maree Swimwear

Hidden Gem: (restaurant, shopping, etc) At Land in Dobbs Ferry. I love this little boutique, and feel it connects me to Tulum in Westchester

KIDS

Describe Your Kids' Style:  His style is a mix of our lives - Italian chic for special occasions and Sunday mass. In his everyday he is very sporty and loves tennis and soccer

Favorite Kids Brand: Bellerose, Bonpoint, Bobo Choses

Mom Hack / Gadget / (or) App:  Headspace

Essential Snack on the Go: Avocado

Favorite Rainy Day Activity: I love to play table games with my son
