Every mom holds her own magic - that arsenal of must have products and best kept secrets which allow her to get through the day and on occasion make motherhood look like a breeze. Each week, we'll use YOYA's 20 Questions to unlock the vault and provide a sneak peek into the essentials of our favorite moms.
This week the spotlight's on Nicole DeTone. Nicole is the wife of a firefighter, mom of a two-year-old daughter and a newborn son (who just arrived last week!), a wedding and portrait photographer, and believer in living a simple, grateful, love-comes-first kinda life. Enjoy learning more about Nicole, from her favorite spots in the Hudson Valley to the snack obsession she shares with her toddler!
My Crew (Kids/Ages): Penelope Love, 2.5 and as I write this I’m 38 weeks pregnant (gender unknown!). (We're thrilled to announce that baby boy River Avett DeTone has since arrived! Congrats Nicole, Matt and Penelope on the newest addition to your family!)
Morning Routine: As a work-from-home mama, everyday looks a little different but in general my morning starts with waking up by 6am so that I have just enough time before my daughter wakes for a quick freshen up and my choice of whatever happens to be most important that day: answering emails and social media, some light household chores, or taking a shower and getting dressed in something other than yoga clothes! Once she’s awake, we hit the ground running with breakfast and either shuffling her off to daycare on Tuesdays and Thursdays or doing one of our morning activities on all other days (story time, swim class, music class, going for a walk, etc.)
Go-to Outfit: These days it’s one of my maternity dresses from Pink Blush Maternity and any pair of shoe that I can slip on without bending over (Birkenstocks are my favorite). But the go-to outfit I miss the most is my Madewell overalls!
Home Decor Style: Dream home decor would be modern farmhouse but we currently live in a 120 year old victorian so our decor is more traditional.
Favorite Destination: I love to travel and there is something in particular about the Pacific Northwest that feels so right and belonging to me, but my favorite place to be will always be home with my family.
Travel Essential: Wine!
Hidden Gem: (restaurant, shopping, etc) There are so many great spots throughout the Hudson Valley, but my favorite local gems are di’Vine Wine Bar for wine, apps and live music, West Main Kitchen & Bar for delicious comfort meals, Hudson Valley Brewery for… the beer, and Lucci Body & Wellness for all my nail and spa treatment needs! Also, Beacon NY is a couple towns over from us and we spend so much of our time there - restaurants, shops, bars, coffee shops, indoor and outdoor activities for kids and families, the list goes on and on!
Describe Your Kids' Style: Neutral and comfortable! Dresses, tunics with leggings or some days just a diaper!
Go-to Gift: (new baby, bday party, etc) I love gifting experiences like gift cards to shows, museums or kids activities and books! My book list is endless but some top favs include The Wonderful Things You Will Be, You Belong Here, Bunny Roo I Love You, Rosie Revere Engineer, Made For Me...
Mom Hack / Gadget / (or) App:Seventh Generation Disinfectant Spray! It’s an all natural spray that kills germs and doesn’t require a rinse or wipe down. It’s especially the best for playrooms and toys!
Essential Snack on the Go: Latest obsession for both Penelope and I are Justin’s Peanut or Almond Butter pouches and snack packs.
Favorite Rainy Day Activity: Going to story time and/or renting movies and books from our local library
