Happening Now: BKLYN Kids Mkt

Next stop: Brooklyn. This Saturday YOYA is heading across the East River for BKYLN Kids Mkt, a pop-up shop filled with fun fashion and fabulous finds for the entire family! The day will be co-hosted by creative director and author Andrea Linett and co-founder of the popular Mama & Tata blog, Candice Miller. In honor of the event, we polled YOYA founder Cristina Villegas on some of her favorites from the neighboring borough.

Best way to get to Brooklyn?

By ferry, of course! I live in South Street Seaport, so Brooklyn is a quick ride across the river. On a nice weekend day, I’ll catch the ferry from Pier 11 to Brooklyn Bridge Park, to stroll down the promenade and take in the iconic views. There’s no better vantage point of Manhattan! On the way home, I’ll hit Cecconi's in Dumbo - a must for people watching, waterfront dining and some very yummy Italian dishes.

Favorite neighborhood?

Brooklyn Heights is definitely a favorite of mine. I find the tree-lined streets and historic brownstones to be so charming and romantic. You can spend hours wandering around! I also love popping into stores and discovering these local hidden gems. I seem to find another favorite each time I visit!

I have such a love for interior design, so I  always make a visit to HomeStories on Montague. It was founded by two European interior designers, and I’m drawn to their selection of simple, yet beautifully curated pieces. I’ll also pop into Collyer’s Mansion on Atlantic, which is a bit louder in aesthetic, but an amazing source of inspiration. The bright colors and patterns make me smile every-time I go in!

Any to-go spots for summer?

A bit further south from Brooklyn Heights is Red Hook, home to the neighborhood staple Brooklyn Crab. This seafood shack offers stunning city views, and is one of my favorite places to hit during the summer. I love to grab a cocktail on the outdoor deck, indulge in a blue crab roll or play a game of mini golf with my daughters. And the sunsets are to die for! It’s always a fun afternoon and definitely my Brooklyn warm-weather must.

Visit Cristina and her curated selection of YOYA pieces this Saturday, April 21st at the BKLYN Kids Mkt. The market will be open from 12pm to 7pm at City Point Brooklyn  - 445 Albee Square West, Downtown Brooklyn. We’ll see you there!
